We’ve been much anticipating the traditional Town vs Country match here at Luisetti Seeds. Canterbury Country last held the trophy in 2009 but were determined the clash at Kaiapoi would see that drought broken.
Canterbury Country emerged victorious 3 – 20!
Canterbury Metro, after nine years of straight victories were clearly confident of extending their winning streak and forgot to bring the Craw Shield with them on their trip to Kaiapoi!
Both Metro assistant coach Daniel O’Brien and Country coach Nigel Smith agreed the match would be a trial for Canterbury B honours and an extra incentive for the boys to bring their best game.
Sure enough, six Country players have been named to play for Canterbury ‘B’ after their Shield-snatching victory!
Congratulations to Brook Retallick and Ben Anderson (Glenmark), Tim Murgatroyd (Prebbleton), Sam Cottam (Lincoln), Mark Maitland and Harrison Kirk (Waihora).
