Congratulations to Dick Frahm of Oxford, who won Miss Canterbury Best Shorn Ewe Hogget at the New Zealand Agricultural show!
Dick and Ann Frahm took home the red ribbon with their Poll Dorset ewe hogget. Their winning ewe was credited as being “outstanding for her breed” – a glowing commendation for their breeding efforts! Only the top six sheep on the day are eligible for the Miss Canterbury ribbon. The ewe won first in her class for Poll Dorset Ewe Hogget, which qualified her for her Miss Canterbury win.
Dick and Ann have been breeding Poll Dorsets since 2005. They have 120 breeding ewes on their farm, along with stud rams and commercial flock rams… and all of them are fed exclusively on Luisetti pastures! They use a Trojan and Red Clover mix for their wintering pastures.
“We’re breeding for ‘breed excellence’. We want stud rams that produce well-muscled, early maturing lambs,” said Dick. “I’m really pleased with the win.”
Dick and Ann also took home a fourth-place ribbon for their ram hogget in the Poll Dorset class, which was later sold to another stud at the Ram & Ewe fair. Dick is also selling flock rams now from his farm in Oxford. He’s the fifth generation of the Frahm family in the Oxford area!
The Frahm family have been valued clients of Luisetti Seeds for three generations, and we’re thrilled for their achievement!
