Luisetti Seeds has been the principal sponsor of Canterbury Country Rugby since 2011, proudly supporting the North Canterbury, Mid Canterbury and Ellesmere sub-unions to deliver the Division 1 Luisetti Seeds Combined Country Cup, the Hunnibell Cup, Watters Cup and Coleman Shield competitions.
Twenty two first division teams will feature in the 2018 competition, including Methven, Oxford, Saracens and Darfield, as well as last year’s finalists, Rakaia and Southbridge. This year three new clubs will field Division 1 teams – Springston, Hurunui and Ashley.
Canterbury Rugby CEO, Nathan Godfrey, said Luisetti Seeds’ close connection to rural Canterbury is a great fit.
“Luisetti Seeds share the CRFU’s commitment to grow the game in what is a traditionally strong rugby region. We value their long-standing relationship with the CRFU and Canterbury Country Rugby.”
“The Canterbury Rugby Union vision is to unify and serve our community, and it is reassuring to have an established community-minded business, such as Luisetti Seeds, on board to help us achieve this,” Godfrey said.
Luisetti Seeds is a 100% family owned New Zealand business that conducts most of its “on farm” business in the North Canterbury, Ellesmere and Mid Canterbury sub union areas. The company and Luisetti family have a long history with North Canterbury Rugby.
The founder of the company, Vince Luisetti, recalled as a player for North Canterbury, leaving Rangiora at 7:00 am during the 1930’s in an open top car (all shingle roads) to play a game at Methven. Apparently quite a cold trip, no matter how many rugs you draped yourself in!
Vince’s father-in-law, Alf Hunnibell was both Manager and Treasurer of the North Canterbury team. All generations of the Luisetti family have subsequently played for Rangiora or its successor, Saracens (five generations in total).
The 2018 Luisetti Seeds Combined Country Competition began on Saturday 24 March and coincided with the launch of a new Canterbury Rugby App for teams and supporters of club rugby to access live scores, draws and results.
