A 20 hectare hill country paddock established in February 2013 has produced a large amount of very useful winter feed for Matt Iremonger, Equity Manager of Mt Benger, North Canterbury.
The steep paddock was worked, then a mix containing Luisetti Seeds new sub clovers (Monti and Antas) as well as Huia white clover, ryegrass and cocksfoot were broadcast from a fixed wing aircraft before being harrowed.
Matt has recently opened the gate to 1000 mated ewe hoggets and says that the sub clover mix has produced high quality feed, which will ensure his stock are in prime condition prior to the worst of the winter.
The new Luisetti sub clover varieties are resistant to the clover root weevil and have proved so popular that our entire stock sold out in our first year of sales.
Luisetti Seeds has begun sub clover production in New Zealand and has recently procured a specialist sub clover harvester that will be used to harvest our first New Zealand production, planted at Woodend and due for harvest in February 2014.
